Bunnykill 3 Vol.2

"Just plain wow."

submission: Bunnykill 3 Vol.2
date: April 11, 2009

I don't think I can effectively summarize my awe at the quality and depth of this animation. Considering the fact that they're all bunnies, this is fantastic. I don't mind if there's no Bunnykill 4, this is certainly good enough for me. The excellence of the animation here is too powerful to be undone by the lack of a successor.

I don't think Smoke needed to die. By which I don't mean I think he shouldn't have gotten stabbed. I think Snowball could have at least tried to take Smoke's body with him, because there's no way a cleanly cut wound like that (to the abdomen?) could be fatal in such a short period of time. He seemed to be reasonably far away from the station by the time it blew up, so it didn't look like time was a big factor there, but, uh... The only reason I can come up with there is that Snowball no longer wanted the competition. And might have killed Smoke anyway. ...That's kinda creepy.

I can NOT get past the first level! The FBI dudes just shoot me no matter where I go to try and dodge all their shots, and I can't figure out how to get off the level either so I just lose lives and then it's game over!

NOT FUN! >:(

So many memories brought back by the music... I almost cried when I heard the Penguin Slide... So good that the game is almost less important.

Except you used the Brackish Pop from Flashkit for the fight scene. Oh well. Great.

Maximum Ninja - 3

"Great, but something doesn't seem quite right."

submission: Maximum Ninja - 3
date: May 10, 2007

Even though the action sequences are perfectly executed (literally), the story is extremely well conducted and there aren't any flaws in the actual graphics, something seems missing.

Maybe it's all of the Ninja's allies dropping like flies, I dunno.

But the Ninja does seem extremely emotionless. His reaction to John's death, aside from his resignation (which likely would have happened anyway, since the events taking place veered him off the army's course), wasn't that intense at all, and seeing as that was the only person he ever apparently connected to, that's a whole lot of emotion that isn't there.

Considering that this is the protagonist of the story that we're talking about here, he shouldn't be just a machine of violence. Even in Madness-style animations.

But this emotionless outlook of the Ninja's makes me wonder how he got a friend like that in the first place. If he's such a killer to the core, how did he develop such an intimate and lasting friendship? (I mean intimate as in close. That's all. Unless you were planning otherwise.) He seems like the guy who would rather clean his firearms than go out for a night of fun and socialization, you know?

Or am I just taking this too seriously? Really, it's up to you where to take this. I'm just noting that something here is a bit off. Either he has some deep feelings and reacted way too lightly to the long-term-affecting tragedy (Keep in mind that we're talking one death, not a million), or he's just a tool of destruction and that the friendship seen here shouldn't be here at all.

Up to you.

Author's Response:

I guess you could say you have read into this more than is neccessary- but I wont tell you I havent thought of this myself.

Its very hard to convey all the story I have in mind for this series. That is quite simply because I overkilled the plot for such a simple concept.

Anyway, the 'Ninja' spent much of his life without much aim, he joined a small gang of elitist criminals of which John was a member. The gang was killed in a raid, leaving the Ninja and his friend as the only survivors. The gang did alot over a long period of time- this is how the Ninja came to find his power-gem-thing (such adventuring I hope to one day animate), so I guess they might have bonded there as one soldier does to another.

After the gang was dissipated, the two went off and joined the army, where they spent more time as fellow soldiers.

Maybe that night of fun and socialization you referred to actually involved cleaning firearms and killing a few police?

When the Ninja's friend was killed, the ninja did not grieve so to speak- he is an engine of anger. The murder of his friend simply directed this anger at a feasable target- a challenge even.

I am still unsure of where to take my story, I have a general idea- but as usual, most is made up on the way. The ninja will kill, this is certain, this is the drive of the series.

I picked the wrong genre for such a story- thats one thing I dont doubt.

And yeah, now that I think of it- Madness does seem a little homoerotic. All those burly male serial killers...

"Well... AWESOME!"

submission: Maximum Ninja - 2

Great. Just great. Really. I love it. Great action, great SFX usage, great storyline, great visual translation of what would otherwise be dialogue, which is, in its pure form, a wrecking ball to the flimsy tower of quality Madness, which can be knocked over with the touch of a feather but provides a height like no other.

Poor, poor John...

The Ninja seems pretty concerned with his mission alone, emotionless besides that. I suppose you'd have to be in order to conduct such mass killing, but still, someone this key needs some sort of personality. Even in Madness.

Really.

"Pretty funny."

submission: Blue Vs Black

Mainly giving this a good grade because of the 300 tribute. Other than that, the quality of the animation could use a little work, and that cursor really bugged me when I was trying to concentrate on the animation... Even though it WAS a really funny cursor...

Your animation was on the short side, too, but I can understand why. You don't really have a lot of room to operate on with a bunch of prefab tributes and stuff, and a bunch of hand-to-hand over and over would get both repetitive and annoying, with the same sounds being played many times.

Author's Response:

Thanks. Yeah... I think next time, I will make the cursor only appear at the load screen or something.

"What an outstanding animation!"

submission: School Madness 2

You ROCK. I love all the fast-paced action scenes, the well-played-out fighting... Plus, the CD scene was nice, and so was that poster on the wall that said PRAY on it. One improvement I think you could make, though, is the sounds. The gunshots sounded a tad repetitive after a while, and it would be nice to have a bit more diversity with them.

Overall, though, this gets the good grade it deserves.

Excellent! Even though a lot of them operated on the same sort of concept, they were still all really diverse and fun to experiment with! Plus, there's that funny text one... :D
